Chief Exec Blog
Welcome to the Chief Executive blog. This is a ...
Welcome from the Chief Exec (No 1)
Welcome to my Blog! I will add updates several times each week letting you all know what’s on my mind and discussing important current issues. What’s on my mind at the moment.
World Class Commissioning (No 2)
On Tuesday, 31 March we held our Board meeting. One of the issues we discussed was our progress on World Class Commissioning. Many of you may know what this is.
Quality and health care (No 3)
One of the issues I want to discuss this week is about quality and health care. To an outsider it seems bizarre, indeed very odd that we even talk about improving our quality.
The Credit Crunch and the NHS (No 4)
This week I want to talk about what effect the “credit crunch” will have on the NHS. Probably not the most cheerful topic but one we need to seriously consider.
Screening tests (No 5)
I recently wrote a short article for one of our local newspapers on screening tests - about how sometimes “wonder tests” that detect cancer are not all they‘re cracked up to be. I plan to cover this in more detail in one of the papers shortly but a little food for thought.....
Deprivation and heart operations (No 6)
Over the weekend I was reading a paper in the British Medical Journal about how deprivation affects the outcomes of heart operations.
Swine Flu (No 7)
This week I need to discuss the flu or as it has become known, swine flu. Some of you will be aware by now that we have had our first case. In fact, it was the first in the East of England, taking the total number in the UK at the time of writing to 55 (as at 10 May 2009).
Our wonderful health service (No 8)
WHEN I was at medical school in ……..well, let’s not dwell on that! Suffice to say it was long enough ago for text to be something you read in newspapers and a pod something you found peas in.
Striving for high quality care (No 9)
This week the Department of Health published 232 quality indicators that healthcare professionals working in the NHS can use to assess their performance by.
It's not about cuts, it's about quality (No 10)
To cut or not to cut? According to the media that seems to be the big NHS question...but some people are missing the point.
Change your life! (No 11)
I'm a doctor so news reports on the niceties (or otherwise) of VAT don't normally top my reading list...
Can The Simpsons be a healthy option? (12)
I was fascinated to learn two great cartoon families will be getting together for the next three months.....
Keeping warm and well go hand in glove (No 13)
With the clocks about to go back at the end of October, I finally have to accept winter is upon us. Farewell mists and mellow fruitfulness and hello freezing mornings!
Choose Well (No 14)
As a doctor, I've seen a few thermometers in my time, but this one made me sit up and think!
Listening to you
